17th-century painting by Rubens: First work of this class auctioned in Poland breaks historic record

Portrait of a Lady by Peter Paul Rubens was sold for PLN 14.4 million at the auction “Old Masters, 19th Century, Modernism, the Interwar Period” on 17 March 2022 at DESA Unicum in Warsaw. It was the most expensive work of art ever sold on the Polish market and the first work by Rubens auctioned in Poland.

Andrzej Wróblewski painting is the most expensive artwork sold on the Polish market

At the Tuesday auction “Contemporary Art: The classics of the avant-garde after 1945” at DESA Unicum, another record was set in the history of the Polish art market. The painting Two Married Women by Andrzej Wróblewski was sold for a record price of PLN 13.44 million (including the auction fee), becoming not only the highest-selling painting in Poland, but also the highest-selling work of art on the Polish market. The total turnover from the auction was nearly PLN 32 million, making it the top art auction in the history of Poland in terms of turnover.

DESA S.A. is planning a public offering

DESA S.A., the largest entity on the rapidly growing Polish art market, is considering an IPO and listing on the main market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The company will be the first representative of its sector on the Polish stock exchange.
